Tell Congress: Help America Modernize Infrastructure and Win Technology Race with China

Access to secure, reliable connectivity is a must-have for every business looking to grow, compete and succeed in the 21st century. But that can only happen if Congress advances policies that position American technology strongly against Chinese competition.

Congress must support policies that will help America modernize its infrastructure and win the technology race with China.

Subject: Fix Section 1662 of the NDAA

As your constituent, I am asking you to fix Section 1662 of the NDAA which puts special interests ahead of America's interests, and will set the U.S. back in the technology race to 5G with China.

The U.S. is in a geopolitical battle with China on a number of fronts, including the battle for technological superiority. If we allow China to reach 5G first, it will have devastating consequences for our country's ability to defend against everything from cyberattacks to drone attacks to top secret intelligence gathering.

Unfortunately, a provision included in last year's NDAA is hurting America's 5G progress. The NDAA targets an American 5G company with provisions typically reserved for America's rivals while rewarding a Chinese drone company. This is anti-American and hampers our country's ability to win the race to 5G.

Thankfully, new leadership is in Washington -- leadership that understands that winning the race to 5G is critical for our country's national security and that we must listen to the technical experts, the science, and the facts on critical decisions, rather than special interests. I'm counting on you to remove the anti-American business language targeting an American company and instead work to protect us from the real threat – China and other foreign adversaries.

The race to 5G is not one we can afford to lose, and we must use every tool in our toolbox to ensure American dominance on the global stage.

That's why the FCC's decision on L-Band was unanimous and received broad, bipartisan support from a wide variety of people. Leaders across government and industry agree on the critical need for L-Band, and they support the FCC's solution to put it to its highest use.

As the U.S. moves forward and pursues a comprehensive infrastructure strategy, I am counting on you to make sure that American companies, not Chinese ones, are able to compete in the United States. Our country's infrastructure and national security must not become a partisan issue or subject to the whims of special interests. Now more than ever, we must empower American companies to use every tool at their disposal to help unleash 5G for American security.

Thank you,
