Petition for General Election in Local 406

We the People, of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Sound familiar? It should. It is the basis upon which this country was founded. However, it seems, that our perfect union has become nothing more than a group of highly paid figure-heads whose sole purpose in life seems to be the maintaining their own status and the consistency of their paychecks.

When confronted by me on a firing, the union said, quote "Sometimes we just have to suck it up and do what the client wants to make them happy. This contractor has been a good client from the beginning and there's not much that can be done about this." end quote. This straight from the mouth of our BA, when told that I was fired for not operating an unsafe rig. The contractor obviously didn't like me refusing to work and fired me on the spot, but at least nobody got hurt as a result of an unsafe rig.

My problem now is that the backbone of our union seems to be lacking backbone. They are content to send us to work on sub-standard contracts, while non-union shops make on average over $5 more per hour than we do. As long as some money is coming in, our politicians and beaurocrats are content to keep making their salaries off of our hard work with no anticipated relief in sight for us, the workers.

This situation is unacceptable. We need proper representation, not politicians. We need operators, who care about operators, not bureaucrats who care about contracts. Stand on Principles. Do what is right, because it is right. It may not be a popular sentiment amongst the BA's and Management, because they know they can do more. We know they can do more. We just need someone to stand up and fight for us, the workers. I can't guarantee you a $10 an hour raise or another $5 into your pension, but I can assure you that I will work to make this union a union "Of the people, by the people, for the people." And I will fight for the issues of us, as a Union and a Brotherhood. I don't want to suffer, nor do I wish suffering on any of my Brothers. Let's do something to change the status quo.

Please sign this petition to at least require an election be held. I may not get elected, but that's ok. These issues need to be aired and if anyone else is willing to stand by me, maybe we can make changes that will help us, our kids, and future generations of IUOE 406 operators.
