Sign the Pledge - Give Caregivers the Resources They Need
1 in 4 Albertans is in danger of caregiver burnout. They provide unpaid care for family members or friends, but who makes sure they can provide for themselves? Sign PetitionSign Petition
Many caregivers don't think of themselves as caregivers – they're simply helping the people who are important to them. But, caregivers are all around us. It could be the colleague at work whose spouse has a chronic illness; the neighbour whose parent has dementia; the friend whose daughter has a mental illness; the cousin whose son has a physical disability. It could even be you.
While focusing on a loved one who requires care, caregivers often don't prioritize their own health and wellness. And, even if they do know what they need, caregivers often find resources are hard-to-access or don't exist. This leads to fatigue, financial challenges, overwhelm, isolation and, eventually, burnout.
At Caregivers Alberta, we believe caregivers deserve as much support as they give.
We are the first and only organization in Alberta dedicated to caring for caregivers. Founded in 2001 - by caregivers, for caregivers - Caregivers Alberta strives to empower caregivers and promote their well-being. We offer one-on-one caregiver coaching, mental-health support, help navigating the health-care system, information about financial and legal resources, respite opportunities like our book club or caregiver journaling program, and education on everything from end-of-life planning to tax benefits. We also offer peer support groups and our award-winning Caregiver education program, COMPASS for the Caregiver.
Who cares? We all need to.
Sadly, our current system can't provide all the care people across Alberta need. Instead, it is unpaid family members and friends who are stepping in to fill the gaps.
Support for caregivers benefits our economy, health-care system and communities. You can help create an Alberta where caregivers are recognized, valued and supported.
Sign our pledge today. Tell caregivers they deserve recognition, resources and support that will sustain them through their invaluable role and contribution.
