Stop The Crisis of E-Cigarette Usage!

Bubble gum, coffee, and even cinnamon rolls – these are just a few of the hundreds of enticing flavors e-cigarettes come in. However, regardless of how good it tastes, we all know that nicotine is addictive and can have serious health impacts.

E-cigarettes are devices that heat a liquid into an aerosol that the user inhales. The liquid usually has nicotine and flavoring in it, and other potentially harmful additives like heavy metals and volatile organic compounds.

In the last 5 years, the use of e-cigarettes has skyrocketed and teenagers and young adults make up the majority of new users. In fact, today, more high school students use these devices than regular cigarettes – a disaster in the making. The CDC recently released a study that found that Colorado leads the nation in the number of teens using e-cigarettes. 44% of Colorado kids report having tried an e-cigarette.

That's nearly half of the teens in our state.

This is a terrifying trend because nicotine has an even more dangerous impact on a young person's developing brain and e-cigarettes are often the first stop on the path to a lifelong tobacco habit. Teens who reported using e-cigarettes recently were more than 4 times as likely to report smoking traditional cigarettes one year later.

E-cigarettes have become the new way for the tobacco industry to hook young people.

We must tell our legislators that we want e-cigarettes to be regulated like tobacco products to help keep them out of the hands of kids. We must demand that they do everything they can to stem this crisis of e-cig use.

Sign the petition today and urge Colorado lawmakers to stand up to the e-cig industry and protect our health.
