HUNTER PEACE GROUP CALLS ON THE ALBANESE GOVERNMENT TO KEEP ITS PROMISES TO SIGN THE 2017 UN TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

The Australian Peace Group ICAN (International Campaign against Nuclear Weapons) after much lobbying to the United Nations and with great support from peace groups across the world achieved the 2017 UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons being passed and after 50 countries had ratified and 120 had signed the Treaty came into force on 21st January 2021.

In Vienna a few weeks ago delegates from the States that ratified and or signed the Treaty met to decide where to next and formulated a Declaration. Part of The Vienna Declaration includes the following actions to be taken to achieve a nuclear free world:

    1. States parties expressed their alarm and dismay at threats to use nuclear weapons and condemned unequivocally "any and all nuclear threats, whether they be explicit or implicit and irrespective of circumstances.:

    2. In the fact of the catastrophic risks posed by nuclear weapons and in the interest of the very survival of humanity ...... We will not rest until the last State has joined the Treaty, the last warhead has been destroyed and nuclear weapons have been totally eliminated from the Earth. "

There are still over 13,000 nuclear weapons owned by 9 countries across the world - none of whom have signed the Treaty.
AUSTRALIA HAS NOT SIGNED THE TREATY.

PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION CALLING ON OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO KEEP ITS PROMISE AND SIGN THE TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS.
