The number of monarch butterflies has declined by more than 80% in the last 20 years. In fact, a survey just revealed that while approximately 1 billion monarchs made the journey to their winter habitat 20 years ago, less than 100 million did this past year.
The main culprit? Big Ag's use of the toxic herbicide glyphosate—commonly known as the potent weed killer Roundup—is killing off native milkweed plants that monarchs need to survive. Milkweed is the only food source for monarch caterpillars. So no milkweed means no monarchs.
The EPA is accepting public comments on the devastating impacts of this dangerous herbicide until April 30.
Urge EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt to adopt tough restrictions on the toxic herbicides imperiling monarchs immediately.

Glyphosate herbicides like Roundup kill milkweed, and monarch caterpillars need milkweed to survive. As use of this potent herbicide has skyrocketed across the United States, the number of monarch butterflies has declined by more than 80% in the last 20 years.
Without strong EPA action, glyphosate could wipe-out monarchs and we could lose their awe-inspiring migration forever.
I'm also concerned about the health impacts of glyphosate, as human exposure to glyphosate-based products like Roundup has been linked to blood cancers including non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
