Protect The Rights Of LGBT Workers
- recipient: Senator Tom Harkin
In most states in the U.S., you can be fired, hired or (not) promoted based solely on your sexual orientation or gender identity.
On March 30, U.S. Representative Barney Frank (D-NY) announced that he plans to reintroduce the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) in order to implement a federal ban on these appalling practices.
ENDA would prohibit employers from basing hiring, firing or promotion decisions on sexual orientation or gender identity. Unfortunately, ENDA is far more likely to pass in to Democrat-controlled Senate than in the Republican-controlled House. That's why we are calling on Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), the progressive chairman of the Senate Labor Committee, to organize the first transgender-inclusive hearing about ENDA.
Everyone deserves the chance to work in an environment free of discrimination. Tell Sen. Harkin to make the first step in criminalizing workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity!
Dear Sen. Harkin,
I am writing to urge you to organize a transgender-inclusive hearing about the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA).

We want you to hold a hearing so that Congress can be inspired by the very real stories of LGBT American who've lost their lives due to their orientation or gender identity.
With your proven track record of progressive leadership on the Senate Labor Committee, we are calling on you to move this essential legislation forward. Everyone deserves the chance to work in a safe environment.
Sincerely,
