Green Your Local School

If we want the next generation to be cleaner, greener and more sustainable, we need to teach kids how their actions impact the world now.

When schools start to conserve energy, lower their carbon footprint and recycle, it not only helps schools save money and lower their impact, it helps kids learn and love science, become better stewards of our planet and improve academically.

There are easy ways to make your local school or kids' classrooms more eco-friendly. Pledge to help your local school green their building, school grounds, curriculum and students experience:

Turn off and unplug all appliances that are not in use to save energy
Adopt a local body of water and teach students how to keep it clean
Reduce waste -- start composting, use both sides of paper and try to do more electronically
Create a field guide so kids learn what plants and animals call their schoolyard home
Take reading outside! Read environment and nature-based magazines and books and enjoy time outdoors.
