Urge Lawmakers to Increase Federal Funding for Our Public Schools

Despite an increase in public school enrollment and the rising cost of education resources, federal funding for public education has stayed at two percent of the federal budget for decades. Making matters worse, a 2015 study found that school districts with the highest rates of poverty receive about $1,000 less per student in state and local funding.

Our public education system deserves to be recognized as a national priority, because the success of our children equates to the success of our nation.

That's why we're calling on the federal government to increase funding for public education.

Increasing per-student funding for low-income kids by 20 percent can lead to an additional year of completed education and improve their chances of earning more money as adults.

So many essential services and programs have been cut from public schools. But a boosted budget could revive and improve forgotten programs in student success, extracurriculars in the arts and technology, special needs services, and student health and wellbeing, including violence prevention programs and mental health services.

This is about giving every kid in America the chance to reach their full potential. Stand with the National PTA and call on the federal government to increase funding for public schools, so that all students have access to the resources they need to learn, grow, and succeed.
