More recently, passengers on a flight that had already landed were forced to sit on the plane for nine hours before the plane pulled into the gate. Passengers aboard could literally have walked to the terminal in a few minutes.
These situations are unnecessary and irresponsible on the part of the airlines. Passengers deserve to have the basic rights of food, water and sanitary conditions in all situations. The Passengers' Bill of Rights addresses these issues and many others, including:
Dear [Congressman],
I am writing because I am distressed by the recent news of airlines' treatment of their passengers during delays. Some of these passengers have been denied food, water and sanitation for up to 11 hours. Bad weather is not justification for poor treatment of passengers.
The Passengers' Bill of Rights would address many important airport and flight issues, including putting a limit on the amount of time passengers can be sitting on a plane. The bill would also establish procedures for providing services to the disabled, elderly and those with special needs and establish compensation guidelines for delayed or canceled flights.
Please support the Passengers' Bill of Rights and make safety the most important issue.
Sincerely,
