House bill #1113 and Senate Bill #737 was recently introduced and is currently pending in the House education Committee. This bill amends the Public School Code of 1949 by requiring:
This bill would be a god send for the parents of children with diabetes creating a worry free educational environment for the thousands of children with diabetes that attend school in Pennsylvania each day. Diabetes is one of the leading chronic diseases for school age children with 1 in 6 girls and 1 in 8 boys born last year developing the disease before the age of twenty, and as per the CDC is the fifth-deadliest disease in the United States.
The legislation outlined in these bills has been proven to provide the awarness, training, and preparedness that will ensure each child, including those with diabetes recieve a safe, appropriate public education, within cost effective means committing Pennsylvania to see that 8000 children with diabetes return home to their families each day and is supported by the the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Position Statement on School Diabetes Care.
Therefore, we the undersigned request that you support House Bill #1113 and Senate Bill #737 and encourage your colleagues in both the House and Senate to do the same, and thank you for your time and commitment on this life saving issue.
