Helping San Diego, California's Homeless Youth

The media has estimated that there are 4,000 homeless youth walking the streets of San Diego, California.

Would you believe that there are very few organizations that address the issues of homeless youth?

Even more distressing is how the business/professional communities, government agencies, and even the religious communities could care less. These kids--non-voters who are neither huge consumers nor significant contributors to collection plates--are generally seen as not really any concern of aforementioned groups.

Homeless youth in San Diego, California need a safe, supportive, stable place where they can eat, sleep, hang out, be themselves and find acceptance. Both a drop-in center and emergency shelter are desperately needed.

There are many empty buildings sitting around San Diego, California compliments of eminent domain and the Center City Development Corporation that could be used for this endeavor.

And we are petitioning the City of San Diego and the Center City Development Corporation for the use of one of these buildings without charge for this purpose. We will be responsible for the upkeep of the building.

This should not be run as a business, no paychecks, no expense accounts, no company cars. Everyone involved should be a volunteer.

And it should be run in partnership with the business, professional and religious communities.

We support this petition.

It is not about politics and money, it is about providing available resources
for the estimated 4,000 homeless youth walking the streets of San Diego, California.
