STOP BOTH WORLDS VILLAS

An article in the Gibraltar Chronicle on Saturday 5th July reported on the Development & Planning Commission%u2019s granting outline planning permission to the building of six luxury villas by ABCO Ltd above Both Worlds.

The article states that the application notes that %u201Cthe Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society (GONHS) has been consulted on the relocation and replanting of a number of animals and plants from the development site%u201D.  This gives the absolutely false impression that GONHS is collaborating with the developers or supports the development in some way.

GONHS is totally and absolutely opposed to the development and to the way that it has been processed.  It is the first time in decades that it is proposed to build on a green site.  Luxury villas will destroy the countryside feel of the area of Sandy Bay and replace it with yet another tunnel effect.  Despite the statements made in ABCO%u2019s application, environmental concerns have not been properly addressed by the developers and there are many serious safety issues which should have been resolved before outline planning permission was granted.  Many of the points are currently being pursued by GONHS through a number of avenues.

Meanwhile, GONHS calls on ABCO to withdraw its proposals and if, if it fails to do so, asks Government to intervene and halt the development in the interests of safety, the environment, and good practice.
