Anne the elephant was rescued to Longleat for rehabilitation on 3rd April 2011 from a life of suffering at Bobby Roberts circus. This was meant to be a temporary respite for Anne to gain physical health to enable her to be transferred to another location where she could be with other elephants.
Elephants are complex social animals and in the wild spend most of their day interacting in social activities. But Anne is alone, and has been since her last friends, Beverly and Janie, died at the circus in the Winter of 2001. She has spent 16 years now in total isolation from her own kind. This will affect her mental well being. Longleat has cared well for Anne but now she needs to be with other elephants.
Elephant Haven in France has agreed to accept Anne if she is to be released from Longleat, into their new elephant Haven, alongside two other elephants. She could be safely introduced to new elephant friends there.
Please sign now to demand Longleat transfer Anne to Elephant Haven in France to be with companions.

Extended petition information:
Anne the elephant was rescued to Longleat for rehabilitation on 3rd April 2011 from a life of suffering at Bobby Roberts circus, which was uncovered by Animal Defenders International (ADI). ADI wanted Longleat to be a temporary respite for Anne to gain physical health to enable her to be transferred to another location where she could be with other elephants of her own kind.
Anne has arthritis in her rear limbs which limits their movement especially after a period of exercise. This has been managed well at Longleat, and she now has more mobility and is in much less pain and discomfort. Overall Anne is now healthier than most captive elephants half her age.
Longleat made promises to Anne and the public that she would be sent to a sanctuary with up to four other elephants in need. ADI's wants were moved aside.
Mentally she is unique, due to her past history of traumatic suffering. However, the mental suffering has continued at Longleat. Elephants are complex social animals and in the wild spend most of their day interacting in social activities. But Anne is alone, and has been since her last friends, Beverly and Janie, died at the circus in the Winter of 2001. She has spent 16 years now in total isolation from her own kind. This will effect her mental wellbeing and make her unique, as there is nothing normal or natural about an elephant alone.
Some stimulation is provided by goats and toys at Longleat, but they will only provide moments of distraction from a very long lonely day in her lonely life.
In March 2014 a group of unnamed experts, not representing their organizations, attended a seminar held by Longleat, at Longleat. It was concluded at this seminar that Longleat should build Anne her much required haven, as her present facility was outdated and inadequate for modern practice of elephant management. Anne moved into the newly built facility early 2015.
It was also concluded that Longleat is not suitable for an elephant sanctuary due to the physical geography and environmental limitations locally and in the long-term, there is a need to stop keeping elephants at Longleat.
Both the care of Anne and this stance Longleat can be commended for. This though leaves Anne a victim of circumstance.
No more elephants means Anne's future is alone. Longleat indicate that they review the possibility of another elephant regularly. However, despite public pleas, campaigns and petitions for companionship for Anne at Longleat, as yet this has been but ignored with no action on Longleat's part.
Anne's rehabilitation has been successful beyond all hope and she has improved above expectations. Anne is a survivor and the next stage of her integrating with others of her own kind is well overdue. Contrary to reports, none of the experts at the meeting believed it was optimal to keep an elephant alone.
With the circumstances, situation and no other sanctuary with other elephants near by, this was sadly agreed to be the best coarse of action in Anne's best interest. There is now another option available.
There is another sanctuary available, in the process of building their first elephant barn, to receive their first three elephants. One of which could be Anne indeed, if Longleat was to release her there. Her medication and care could continue, and she could have a choice to integrate with other elephants at a level which is safe for her.
Elephant Haven in France has agreed to accept Anne if she is to be released from Longleat.
Following agreement of release issues such as funding, Anne's independent fitness for travel assessment, travel arrangements and total cost could commence immediately.
We the signed demand Longleat consider and transfer Anne to Elephant Haven in France to be with companions.

Update #5about a month ago
It is with a broken heart that I have to inform you that I am closing this petition.
Since October 2020, Anne's temporal glands have been weeping due to elevated stress.
This is a physical sign that her mental resilience is now broken, thus weakening both mentally and physically daily.
There is a cure, rehabilitation, socialisation with another elephant now without any further added stress, however this is not possible where she is within her circumstance and situation today at Longleat.

E.H.E.E.S. are now ready for their first 3 elephants.
Longleat are refusing to open any communications regarding Anne.
Anne has now been without a companion for 19 years, 9 of those lonely years now have been with Longleat. They may be happy for her to die alone with all the wrong reasons, however we are not, for all the right reasons.
