Scottish Councils - ban single-use plastics, now!

China has announced it will stop taking our plastics in 2018, the UK Government is looking into potential taxation methods to deter the use of single-use plastics and one walk along our beautiful coastline tells the tale of the toll of convenience SUP on marine life and our natural environment.

Numerous District Councils across England have already agreed to become 'single-use plastic free' by phasing out the use of 'single use plastic' (SUP) products such as bottles, cups, cutlery and drinking straws in all council activities, where it is reasonable to do so, by April 2018 and to encourage their facilities' users, local businesses and other local public agencies to do the same, by championing alternatives, such as reusable water bottles.

We call on all 32 Councils in Scotland to do the same and use their collective buying power and influence to make a huge step towards reducing our reliance on single-use plastics.

Some points to include: China will stop taking our plastics soon, many single-use plastics are non-recyclable so cost Councils money to put in landfill, the Chancellor last month declared he is looking at taxing SUP, Blue Planet II's coverage of the impact of plastic on marine life. Thank you!
