Rosemary Clooney Highway (or Bridge)

Rosemary Clooney Highway The purpose of this petition is to ask Governor Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Transportation to name a highway after one of Kentucky's first movie stars, pop singers and humanitarians, Rosemary Clooney. Rosemary forged a trail for women in the world of popular music in the late 1940's. She and her sister, Betty, became popular first on the street corners of Maysville, Kentucky, where they sang to attract a crowd for their grandfather, who was a politician. From there, they traveled to Cincinnati, sixty miles each way, to sing on WLW radio. Eventually, Rosemary went on the road with the Tony Pastor band, and became nationally and internationally popular with songs such as, "Hey There," "This Ol' House," and "Come On a' My House." Rosemary blazed a trail for women singers and her talent inspired an entire generation of singers. She starred in a number of movies, most notably, "White Christmas," with Bing Crosby. Rosemary's career spanned over half a century, and when she passed away on June 29, 2002, her physical voice was silenced, however her spirit and music live on. Let's celebrate and honor Rosemary by asking the Commonwealth to dedicate a highway in her name.
We, the undersigned, believe that due to her status as an internationally recognized star of television, radio, movies, as one of the first female pop music recording artists, and her advocacy on behalf of those who suffer from mental illness, Rosemary Clooney should be honored with a highway named after her in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and we respectfully ask Governor Steven Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Transportation to name a Kentucky highway or bridge, as the Rosemary Clooney Highway or Rosemary Clooney Bridge!
The current status of this endeavor is encouraging! Governor Beshear was kind enough to forward our petition to the Department of Transportation for action! Now our objective is to find an appropriate road or bridge to honor Rosemary Clooney by naming it after her. A very good suggestion has recently been offered regarding a singing bridge, or road. As an amalgam of art and engineering, new bridges and roads are now being built that are singing bridges or singing roads! It is our belief that a singing bridge or road named after Rosemary Clooney would be a wonderful statement by the State of Kentucky of its respect, love and remembrance of Rosemary! If you know of the perfect road or bridge, please sign the petition and offer your idea so we can suggest it. (The AA Highway, which was part of our previous petition, has already been named after John Y. Brown, Jr., so we need to get out the map and figure out the best road, bridge or avenue to take now!)
