Clean Up the Profile Cotton Mill section that has been abandoned by outside company

We the signers of this document remain sickened and appalled by the obvious abandonment of the property that was once the Historic Profile Cotton Mill.  This is the section of the Mill that was stripped and left by then owners, Southern Heart Pine of Joanna, SC.

Nothing makes us more aware of the dismissal of our town’s heritage than to see the ruins of many of our families’ livelihoods.  The memories of the Profile Cotton Mill still burn strong in our minds and to see the decaying remains day after day month after month and year after year is insulting to our families and to our town.

Mayor Smith, members of the City Council – We implore you to take immediate action upon  the current owner of this property and demand that if this property is to remain in their possession, it’s upkeep must reflect the significance of this revered property.

From the mangled and broken fences to the thousands of loose bricks strewn across over four acres with reckless abandonment.  From the tacky black paint that seems to reflect the death of something so admired to the opened walls and doors that invite the elements to finally destroy the building which may one day be restored should providence prevail.

We have seen the destruction of too many historical structures over the years in Jacksonville and frankly Mr. Mayor, Members of the City Council, we are sick of it.

Sincerely,

Residents of Jacksonville, Alabama
