Tell Streaming Sites, Radio Stations, Venues, and Cities to #MuteRKelly!

  • by: #MuteRKelly, Care2
  • recipient: Live Nation, Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, I Heart Radio, Radio One, City Councils, and all of the venues hosting R. Kelly concerts

The #MuteRKelly movement has come together to call for a worldwide mute on R&B singer, Robert "R" Kelly, due to his 25 year history of sexual, physical and emotional abuse allegations. We urge Ticketmaster, Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, radio stations, and all other entities currently playing his music, hosting or promoting his events or doing business with R. Kelly to cut ties with him immediately.

We're calling for a complete and total mute. We do not want to hear him on the radio. We do not want him on streaming services. We do not want him booked at concerts.

Since 1994, R. Kelly has been accused of committing sexual abuse, violence and misconduct against multiple African American girls and young women.
He secretly married the late R&B singer Aaliyah Haughton when she was 15 years old and he was 27; has been sued by at least four women for sexual misconduct, statutory rape, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, and providing illegal drugs to a minor; and was indicted on multiple counts of child pornography for which he stood trial.

Last year, disturbing reports surfaced from parents and former entourage members who allege R. Kelly is holding multiple women in a "sex cult" in which he controls their every move, physically and emotionally punishes them if they break his rules, and films his sexual encounters with them to share with his friends.

Click here to view a brief timeline R. Kelly's sexual misconduct and click here for recent media reports including stories from two additional women who have came forward with new allegations against him.

Despite all of this information being on the public record, Kelly continues to tour, release albums, collaborate with top-selling, popular artists and be honored at events like BET's Soul Train Awards. R. Kelly should not profit while he continues to victimize women.

We must not let habitual abusers float above justice simply because they are rich and famous. Recently, the Time's Up Women of Color committee joined the #MuteRKelly movement. Ava DuVernay, Viola Davis, Kerry Washington and other powerful women in the entertainment industry have taken to Twitter urging companies to stop doing business with R. Kelly. We hope that you will also join us to turn R. Kelly into a symbol for victim's rights, reminding abusers everywhere that no one is untouchable - not even celebrities.

Care2 members have routinely spoken out loudly to stop serial sexual predators to whom society has given a pass, including Bill O'Reilly, Bill Cosby, and Dr. Luke. It's time to speak out just as loudly against R. Kelly.

We must not let habitual abusers float above justice simply because they are rich and famous. Let's work together to turn R. Kelly into a symbol for victim's rights, reminding abusers everywhere that no one is untouchable.

Update #35 years ago
In case you missed it, petition authors and #MuteRKelly movement leaders, Kenyette Tisha Barnes and Oronike Odeleye, joined us LIVE during a broadcast on Facebook where they spoke about why this campaign is so important to them and more ways we can all get involved to help.
