Republicans gutted train safety rules during the Trump administration, and we saw the results with the recent disaster in East Palestine, Ohio. And yet, incredibly, Republicans in Congress are blocking Democratic efforts to fix the problem.

Republicans knew exactly what they were doing and risking when they slashed these rules. Way back in 2018, Fortune Magazine ran a headline that was pretty close to a crystal ball:
"Trump Rolls Back Train-Braking Rule Meant to Keep Oil Tankers from Exploding Near Communities"
And yet, Republicans still oppose sensible steps -- and they are putting us on the fast track to the next disaster.
