Save the Angel!

Summerville City Council is considering approving a plan to put 228 multi-family housing units and an eight acre parking lot on the property where the South Pointe Angel Oak is located in Summerville, SC.

The planned development will place a large housing unit where the Angel Oak is located. The developers also want to cut down or harm 70 other grand trees so they can squeeze in as many buildings as possible! The development will also ask to fill in the wetlands on the property, an important habitat for countless species of animals.

The property is currently zoned TM-R by Dorchester County for single family homes with at least a one acre lot. The developers are asking the city of Summerville to annex the property and change the zoning to allow them to obliterate the trees and wetlands. Additionally, the Grand trees are supposed to be protected by law, but the developers are seeking a variance from the city's Board of Zoning Appeals so they can cut down these trees anyway.

Tell the City of Summerville WE SAY NO! The South Pointe Angel Oak is a beautiful and important part of our area!

Please send an email to planning@summervillesc.gov and tell them you oppose the annexation and re-zoning of the parcel of land TMS# 138-00-00-015 because you love the trees and wetlands on the property. Thank you!
