The House and Jeff Sessions Just Stripped Medical Marijuana States of DEA Protection - Tell the Senate to Act!

The federal government could soon crack down on states that have legalized medical marijuana. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) may soon raid local marijuana dispensaries, causing sick people to be without access to their medicine.

Because marijuana is federally illegal, even states that have legalized it could be subject to penalties in a new move by Congress. In 2014, Congress passed an amendment to the federal budget that protected states that have legalized medical marijuana. They made it such that the DEA could not spend a single penny enforcing cannabis prohibition.

But recently, that amendment — which has to be renewed with every budget — was rejected by the House Rules Committee. That means the House can't include the rider in their final version of the federal budget bill.

Dispensary owners, doctors recommending cannabis, and medical marijuana patients could soon face prosecution for their involvement in the industry - and Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made it very clear that he wants to crack down on the industry.

It's incredibly important that states that have legalized medical marijuana are protected from a federal crackdown. Please sign this petition to send an email to your Senators asking them to re-insert the rider preventing the DEA and DOJ from spending a dime on prohibition enforcement in their version of the budget bill!

The future of this plant medicine, and all those who use it, is at stake!

It's incredibly important that states that have legalized medical marijuana are protected from a federal crackdown. A full 64 percent of Americans support marijuana legalization. What's worse, who who are already involved in this industry face prosecution for actions they have already taken to ensure this drug gets to patients.

Senators, please -- re-insert the rider preventing the DEA and DOJ from spending a dime on prohibition enforcement in your version of the budget bill!

Update #26 years ago
Jeff Sessions just rescinded the Cole Memo, which discouraged federal prosecutors from charging people for marijuana-related crimes in states that have legalized the drug. It's more urgent than ever that we ensure the final budget bill includes a rider protecting marijuana states from a DEA crackdown! Good news! President Trump signed a temporary spending bill into law on Dec. 22, and it included protections for state medical marijuana programs, known as the Rohrabacher-Blumenauer amendment, until Jan. 19. But the fight isn't over! We have to ensure the amendment remains in the next budget bill. Please share this petition on Facebook to encourage your friends to sign!
