Increase the unreasonably narrow newly fenced path, west of Mapledurham lock (part of Thames path)

We, the users of the Thames Path west of Mapledurham Lock, object to the small amount of width being provided by Home Farm for the Thames Path in fencing off the fields that it crosses.
For many years there has been an understanding between Home Farm and the residents of and visitors to Purley on Thames that there is unrestricted access to the Thames Path which crosses its fields in return for respect for the crops and livestock.
Whilst we recognise that the farm has the right to fence off the land, the width being provided is unreasonable and not within the spirit of the regulations concerning access to the Thames Path.
In places there is less than 2 metres of usable path. This is unreasonable; constitutes a safety hazard due to the slippery conditions in winter, proximity of boats or fishermen and excessive traffic during the summer; and is an infringement of the rights of disabled people wishing to use this resource. We are asking the farmer to increase the width of the path to at least the same as that provided by neighbouring Spring Farm.

    Dear petitioner,
Thank you for signing the petition. We need to ask you for your help with the next step. Having contacted the West Berks council Public Rights of Way office, we need to prepare a case by collecting evidence of how the path has been used over the last 20+ years. This requires us to get regular users to fill in some forms. If you can help, please send us your email or postal address to thames.path.petition@gmail.com. We will get the documents and instructions to you. Anna and Ben
