End the Dog Slaughter at the Tomohon Extreme Market

At the Tomohon Extreme Market in Sulawesi, Indonesia, going dog shopping has a whole new meaning.

There, dogs aren't adopted but slaughtered by the thousands every week. And while that might be disturbing enough, the way they kill them is far worse.

First bludgeoned with wooden poles, then blow-torched alive, the market has become infamous among animal rights activists who are trying to get North Sulawesi officials to shut it down. They cite the abhorrent animal treatment and the extremely high chance of spreading diseases like rabies.

Unfortunately, they have had little success. The market — which also sells many other helpless animals — is currently running at full steam. Local officials have ignored activists calls so now they are asking the central government to take action and close down this animal house of horrors.

With the help of animal lovers like you, we can send the government a powerful message that people all over the world want this horrible place shut down. Please take second to sign this petition. Ask Indonesia to put an end to the Tomohon Extreme Market and others like it.
