People should sign because: in order to get SSI or SSD, a person with major health issues, has to have proof of these illnesses. They need to prove how the illnesses prevent them from working. Often they get denied the first court hearing. When someone is finally accepted whether it be adult , child,, senior. They give them a low threshold of allowed assets. Cars are considered such assets. Disabled people depend on their cars, it is not humane to say "You have a reliable car, so we are cutting your benefits." Timeshares are controversal as assets-because they are considered currently a summer home. Some disabled people have had these timeshares-from when they could actually travel etc. These things cost maintenance. They are not assets. Often they are one week yearly, or bi-annually. They do not make a consistent income if any. Most people may have a healthy spouse who obtained the timeshare, and now cannot get rid of it. Because a normal individual(not a sales company), does not have the funding to show off the timeshare, give a free dinner and show or local amusement area. The actual price someone could sell these, are less than 70% of what they paid. Timeshares are considered an asset, even if the healthy spouse wants to keep them, or relatives use them. They require the person to pay maintenance-NOT pay the person. A person cannot LIVE in a timeshare for any longer than a week annually or biannually. Unlike a summer home-which is a second liveable home. SSI individuals are told, they either sell it(and their benefits are temporarily turned off for X amount of months), or lose their benefits-including any retroactive benefits-because the asset level is broken by the timeshare-especially if you own a family car(cars). In rural areas, a family may require an additional vehicle. And why should a disabled person, not be allowed to have what everyone else has: a nice, reliable car? I don't mean an imported car etc. Just one that is in good condition, or under a warranty-because what happens if a person with medical conditions car breaks down? It does NOT matter if you have nothing in the bank, etc. If you have nowhere to live, etc. And if you have NO benefits-how do you pay your bills, or sign for an apartment or home? These people are forced to live with relatives the rest of their lives, because they cannot get their benefits. Again if you SELL your car, or timeshare-they remove your benefits for whatever period of time-if you are lucky benefits will only be cut. You don't have enough income-if any at all. Some people are in transition to full disability, and cannot work at all. What if you are ill, have SSI, and need your retroactive/due benefits for a downpayment/security on an apartment or home? Please have compassion, and sign this. Many major illnesses put the person(s) through more than enough, than to suffer this. Thank You.
