Save The Culvert Streeet Bridge

In West Ashley , known by locals as The Patch, there is a historic and characteristic culvert still standing called "The Culvert Street Stone Bridge".  This bridge has been standing since at least 1920.  Most likely more than 100 years old. This fact can be attributed to a long standing resident who was born and raised on Frederick Street. Its origins may be earlier than that given that the Huber Breaker was in operation and needed the railroads and its spurs to move coal from its facility.

It has come to the attention of the below signed Ashley residents, that the Borough has received a grant to tear down this bridge.  Recognizing that time does not stand still, you can see that all other railroad trestles have been removed from our area.  The Culvert Street Bridge is one of the last remanents of the coal/railroad industry that was critical to our past as Ashley was the home of "Anthracite Blue Coal." The residents who have signed are in favor of having the Culvert Street Bridge remain as is and remain a tribute to all our past.
