Congress: Force Trump to Put His Assets in a Blind Trust

Typically, U.S. Presidents agree to place their assets in a blind trust during their presidency. This practice ensures that a president can't make decisions on behalf of the country simply because they would benefit them personally. It also keeps foreign and domestic powers from unduly changing the way a president governs. Every president has stuck to this precedent for years as a gesture and commitment to govern fairly, until now.

Donald Trump refuses to turn his complicated domestic and international business dealings over to someone independent and impartial. Instead, he plans to allow his three adult children to run the show. Trump has business dealings with domestic and international parties who would have a vested interest in the way he governs. So this is a dangerous and unprecedented action as all the dealings would still be intertwined with government.

We can't allow for these business connections to stand during a Trump presidency. Please sign the petition to demand that Congress steps in and passes a law that would force any future president to completely divest from personal business interests during their presidency.
Update #27 years ago
Trump still has not stepped away from his many business conflicts. We must demand Congress forces him to!
Update #17 years ago
The conflicts of interest between the Trump family and diplomacy continue to pile up. Ivanka is nearing a deal with a Japanese apparel company owned by the government, even though she has been privy to political meetings between the US and Japan.
