Please ask the City of Los Angeles to amend its Municipal Code so that the owner of historical monuments can be forced to maintain and protect these irreplaceable structures. There is a loophole in the current code that allows owners to get away with letting these buildings collapse: if they list the building for sale, even if they're not serious about selling it, they can sit back and accomplish "Demolition by Neglect".
The Elegant Manor (at the corner of Arlington and Adams in Los Angeles) has been falling apart for over 30 years, and the Department of Building and Safety, the LA Office of Historic Resources, and the City Attorneys office have said they have done all they can do under the current Municipal Code.
We are asking for the code to be changed so that owners do not profit by allowing these monuments to collapse.
