Grand River Transit, stop advertising for "anti-choice" organizations!

I recently was at the Ainslie Street terminal and was horrified by the extremely large Cambridge Right to Life poster at the main entrance. The poster said "abortion hurts" and depicted a young girl crying.

This poster promotes shaming women for having an abortion. Grand River Transit (GRT) is part of the REGION OF WATERLOO, and many women use the social services and public health resources they provide. Having this poster up gives the impression that the Region of Waterloo is anti-choice.

How can we expect women to go to a service when they need medical help if they feel they are going to be judged and made to feel shameful? This poster may express the views of some people, but it does not express the feelings of all people, and has no place on a public bus or bus station.

This is what has been approved for GRT buses:

The exterior of three local city buses will feature the same powerful message that will run from May to August.

Additionaly, some seven Interior Bus ads will help reach not only Cambridge transit patrons, but also those within the greater Waterloo area. Five of our local buses and two new IExpress bus routes will display the Interior signage.

And finally reaching not only pedestrians, but those stopped at street lights or just driving by will see similar ads on two Bus Shelters located in high traffic areas at the Delta and Ainslie Street Bus Terminal. The euthanasia message will be displayed at the Bus Shelter on Coronation Boulevard next to the Hospital. All three ads will run for four weeks from May 14 to June 11.

Please sign this petition if you agree that the GRT is a public service, and should have higher standards then to advertise this.
