Donald Trump's impressively moronic tariffs are already poised to do two practically contradictory things at once -- slow the economy AND drive up inflation. You have to be a special kind of stupid to do both concurrently. It's like causing a flood and a drought in the same place at the same time.
And now he's going for the trifecta -- by bankrupting Social Security too:
"Many economists have expressed concern that the risk of higher unemployment and economic contraction has risen significantly because of the tariff chaos — possibly leading to a recession. Lower labor force participation and earnings would lead to lower Social Security revenues, reducing trust fund solvency." (source)
Social Security reserves are already projected to be depleted in 2034 -- a year faster than the projtection this time last year. We need to protect it, not push it towards bankruptcy through the asinine and destructive policies of a madman.
Congress has the power to reject these crazed tariffs, and reduce the threat to Social Security. It should do so NOW.
