Stop Sacramento politicians & special interests from destroying single-family neighborhoods!

Dear neighbor:

We are building a broad coalition of communities and organizations around California to sound the alarm about a group of bad bills sponsored by Sen. Toni Atkins and her friends in Sacramento, who have decided that it is more important to serve their special interest contributors than to work in a sincere, collaborative, and transparent manner to solve our state's affordable housing crisis. We defeated SB 50 earlier this year – now Sen. Atkins and her colleagues have decided to break SB 50 up into nine different bills (including SB 1120, SB 902 and AB 1279) and re-introduce the same horrible public policy ideas with new names during a pandemic when we are all preoccupied with more important things like making sure our families are safe and healthy.

For detailed information on the nine new bills descended from SB 50, please visit https://www.livablecalifornia.org/act-now-3-2. To understand exactly how powerful special interests have corrupted our legislative process, please visit https://marinpost.org/blog/2020/1/21/the-real-story-behind-sb-50-the-senate-bill-that-will-change-your-neighborhood-forever.

If you agree that our elected officials in Sacramento should not silence the voices of local governments and communities or pass legislation that would inequitably increase density in suburban areas, effectively eliminate single family neighborhoods, increase gentrification, and disproportionately impact communities of color, please join us in signing this petition. CLICK HERE to send an email to Sen. Atkins and other Sacramento politicians to make sure they hear our collective voices on this very important issue now.

Please spread the word, and thank you for your support! We are online at www.uha1979.org if you need to contact us directly. Let's continue to fight for real solutions to California's affordable housing crisis!

Thanks for helping us defeat SB 1120! However, the Legislature passed SB 9 & SB 10 and the Governor signed both bills, so as of Jan. 1st its perfectly legal for a developer to tear down the house next door to you and put up 6 or 8 new apartments without any public hearing, environmental review, additional fees to offset impacts, or affordability. To restore our ability to speak out about this travesty, check out https://ourneighborhoodvoices.com and voluteer to help us collect signatures!

You probably heard by now that SB 1120 died in the Legislature Monday night so WE WON! Thanks to everyone who took time to contact Sacramento to let them know that our communities are not for sale and encourage them to implement real affordable housing measures. This fight is far from over so keep an eye on www.uha1979.org for updates - Gov. Newsom said today that he is open to more bills like this (see https://youtu.be/iqZ3ulAjwHw at 35:15) so we need to change the narrative and go on offense!

Thanks for your support everyone! After 2 days of being "passed and retained" without a floor vote it appears SB 1120 is headed for a floor vote today (Aug. 27th). If it passes the Assembly it will go back to the Senate and then land on Gov. Newsom's desk for his signature. Please continue to visit www.uha1979.org to download our call to action and keep contacting these Sacramento politicians to call out their b.s. policy initiatives! No on SB 1120!

Good evening neighbors! Thanks for your support - please send a quick email to assemblymember.ramos@assembly.ca.gov and ask Assemblymember Ramos to vote NO on SB 1120 and SB 902 during the Assembly Local Gov't Committee hearing tomorrow. We want Mr. Ramos and others to support more collaborative efforts to create the affordable housing we need instead of forcing more market-rate housing into our single family neighborhoods which will only exacerbate the current affordable housing crisis. Thanks!
