Dear neighbor:
We are building a broad coalition of communities and organizations around California to sound the alarm about a group of bad bills sponsored by Sen. Toni Atkins and her friends in Sacramento, who have decided that it is more important to serve their special interest contributors than to work in a sincere, collaborative, and transparent manner to solve our state's affordable housing crisis. We defeated SB 50 earlier this year – now Sen. Atkins and her colleagues have decided to break SB 50 up into nine different bills (including SB 1120, SB 902 and AB 1279) and re-introduce the same horrible public policy ideas with new names during a pandemic when we are all preoccupied with more important things like making sure our families are safe and healthy.
For detailed information on the nine new bills descended from SB 50, please visit https://www.livablecalifornia.org/act-now-3-2. To understand exactly how powerful special interests have corrupted our legislative process, please visit https://marinpost.org/blog/2020/1/21/the-real-story-behind-sb-50-the-senate-bill-that-will-change-your-neighborhood-forever.
If you agree that our elected officials in Sacramento should not silence the voices of local governments and communities or pass legislation that would inequitably increase density in suburban areas, effectively eliminate single family neighborhoods, increase gentrification, and disproportionately impact communities of color, please join us in signing this petition. CLICK HERE to send an email to Sen. Atkins and other Sacramento politicians to make sure they hear our collective voices on this very important issue now.
Please spread the word, and thank you for your support! We are online at www.uha1979.org if you need to contact us directly. Let's continue to fight for real solutions to California's affordable housing crisis!
