Ban Transporting Horses for Slaughter

  • by: Animal Advocates
  • recipient: United States House of Representatives, U.S. Senators

Legislation (S. 1176 and H.R. 2966) has been reintroduced in the House and the Senate to prohibit the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption.

There are no operating slaughterhouses in the U.S. that kill and process horse meat for human consumption, but thousands of horses are trucked out of the country for slaughter.

This practice  perpetuates unrestricted breeding because money can be made off of “surplus” animals, especially those by-products of the hormone replacement industry from pregnant mares used in the manufacturing of Premarin and Prempro, where unwanted foals are killed and disposed of as a by-product.

Tell the Senate to prohibit the cruel and callous transportation of horses for slaughter.
