I remember a petition on the now-closed down site PetitionOnline asking for Bill Gates to buy the rainforests. Bill Gates has already done a lot of good for the world. If Bill and Melinda Gates bought as much rainforest as possible, think of all that rainforest, as well as all the wildlife and natives, that would be saved from logging, burning and bulldozing.
Rainforests are extremely important to the world, to wildlife, to other animals and to people. I have heard of the Amazon Rainforest being described as the "Lungs of the Earth". Yet the "Lungs of the Earth" is being destroyed rapidly. According to an article on the BBC, a football pitch-sized area of the Amazon Rainforest is lost every minute, with much of this being lost to slash-and-burn agriculture and other animal agriculture. Bill and Melinda Gates could buy and save a lot of the Amazon and/or the rainforests of Africa and/or Asia, saving wildlife such as tigers, leopards, elephants, orangutans, rhinos, hippos, jaguars, monkeys, birds like parrots, parakeets, fish, many, many species of insects and other bugs, as well as possible preserving a lot of land for the natives. I have heard it said that when Westerners get involved with saving the rainforests it is often not good, or something like that. The natives need the rainforests. But, if someone like Bill and Melinda Gates, the same people who founded the Gates Foundation that aims to help the poor and others, were to buy the rainforests, they could perhaps preserve it for the natives as well as for the wildlife and other animals, and for the planet.
Yesterday was Earth Day. Today is my Earth Day, as I didn't celebrate it enough yesterday... What better way to celebrate a belated Earth Day than by helping a petition that could to save so much rainforest?
