Stop Voter Suppression - Say NO to Voter ID Laws

The introduction of strict voter ID requirements in the UK will stop many people from being able to vote, according to concerned charities and academics. A pilot scheme has already caused some voters to be locked out of the recent local elections, including 76-year-old Peter White of Bromley.

His wife, Kathleen Milward, echoed the concerns of voting rights groups when she said: ''I think people who have problems with their ID will certainly be disenfranchised, even if they've lived here for many years.''

Preventing election fraud is the justification for the new voter ID policy, but this issue has been dramatically overblown. Out of 45 million votes in 2017, the Electoral Commission found just 28 allegations of identity fraud.

Those who will actually lose out on votes are those who are too poor or precarious to have a driving licence or passport: the elderly, students, immigrants, young adults and other UK communities who have every right to vote. It will affect an estimated 7.5% of UK voters.

Please sign this petition to demand that voter ID laws are NOT introduced in the UK. Together, we can raise our voices and protect democratic voting.

The UK government:

New voter ID laws will lock many voters out of our democracy. Concerns have been raised by many organisations and academics, and members of the public.

There is no evidence of election fraud being a significant issue in the UK. There is no justification for stopping around 7.5% of UK citizens from voting due to not having the required ID.
