Over the last year, numerous children have told their parents that they have been sexually assaulted or harassed by other children on school grounds. The schools have been notified each time, but they have done nothing to protect our kids.
School officials have told parents that there is nothing they can do since they didn't personally see the attacks. They have even gone so far as to brush off the children's reports of abuse by saying kids sometimes experiment or make things out to be what they aren't.
Sign this petition to demand that the Sachem Central School District believe the children who have been brave enough to come forward about the sexual abuse they have experienced at the hands of their classmates.
The youngest child involved in these incidents was seven years old and the oldest was 12 years old. No child should know about sexual assault at this age. If they are doing these things to others, then they may be experiencing abuse at home. We need these reports to be taken seriously so that the young victims can heal and the alleged attackers can get the help they need.
When the school authorities didn't do anything in response to the children's reports of abuse, desperate parents went to the police and filed reports. Those didn't go anywhere because apparently if the kids involved are under 16 years old and the school hasn't taken action, the police can't either.
We need to show our children that we believe them. And we need to make our schools safe for everyone. Please sign this petition to demand that Sachem Central School District change their policy for dealing with reports of sexual assault and harassment so that the victims are protected and the alleged perpetrators receive the help they need.
After we have enough signatures we will take this petition along with police reports to the board along with as many people as we can get to go to a board meeting. We need to make sure our children's voices are heard and action is taken to protect them.
The cops, svu, cps, Lee Zeldins Office and Megan's law are all aware of the alleged situations and are working to help keep our kids safe.
