Tell Congress: Support Cool Cars and Clean Energy

Automakers and utilities are fighting hard right now to roll back efforts to reduce global warming pollution.

This summer, Congress passed an Energy Bill that could help reduce global warming pollution. The Senate version requires cars to go farther on a tank of gas, and the House version requires electric utility companies to obtain more power from clean, renewable sources such as wind and sun.

But now the House and Senate must reconcile the differences between their energy bills. And while the Senate has passed a renewable standard three times in prior sessions, a few Senators this session ardently oppose these standards.

To help combat global warming, the new Energy Bill must include a 35-mile per gallon fuel economy standard AND a 15 percent renewable electricity standard. The Union of Concerned Scientists has shown that stronger fuel economy and renewable energy standards are technologically feasible, will save money for consumers, will create American jobs and can reduce global warming.

Tell Congress to reduce U.S. dependence on oil by increasing fuel economy and clean, renewable electricity today!

Dear Senator,

In the next few months the House and Senate will reconcile the two different versions of the Energy Bill. Please accept nothing less than the Senate's position on fuel economy, and accept the House's sound renewable electricity standard-a concept already approved by the Senate several times in the past.

These smart, practical initiatives would save me and my family money on the cost of gasoline and electricity, as well as reduce America's global warming pollution.

I urge you to protect American families by ensuring that the final Energy Bill that goes to the president to sign includes the Senate-passed 35 mile per gallon fuel economy standard AND the House-passed 15 percent renewable electricity standard-anything less is unacceptable.

Thank you,
