Pardons for Marijuana Possession!

  • by: Green Party of Canada
  • recipient: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; Jody Wilson-Raybould, Justice Minister

Canadians will soon be able to buy and use marijuana openly and safely — free from the threat of being charged with a crime. This is wonderful news.

However, many thousands of Canadians previously convicted for possession of marijuana will remain criminals in the eyes of the law.

A disproportionate number of minority Canadians now have criminal records, and all those convicted face significant obstacles applying for jobs and traveling abroad.

Join the Green Party of Canada to demand that the Liberal government pardon all Canadians convicted solely on charges of marijuana possession.

Since the Liberals came to power in 2015, over 2,000 people have been convicted for marijuana possession. This was after Justin Trudeau campaigned to legalize it.

It is unfair to burden Canadians with a criminal record just for possessing marijuana. Add your name to call on the government to rectify this injustice now!

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Wilson-Raybould,

I am writing to urge you to pardon all those who have been convicted solely for possessing marijuana. It is unfair to penalize thousands of Canadians — disproportionately from minority communities — for engaging in a practice that will soon be legal.

Please act in the interests of justice by granting pardons for those who continue to suffer under the burden of an unjust criminal record.
