Student Wearing Freddie Gray 'Costume' Needs to Be Expelled

Over the weekend, a photo showing a College of Charleston student at a Halloween party surfaced online and quickly went viral. The white student was wearing an orange jumpsuit that said "Freddie Gray," the name of the black man who died after being severely injured while in custody of the Baltimore police.

This "costume" was utterly repugnant and offensive. This sort of callousness to human life cannot be tolerated on campuses. Please sign this petition demanding that the College of Charleston identify and expel this student immediately.

Freddie Gray was 25 when he died after sustaining neck injuries while in the back of a Baltimore police van in 2015. The incident was followed by massive riots in Baltimore and pushed the discussion of police brutality against black men and women further into the limelight.

The College of Charleston quickly denounced the costume and announced it was launching an official investigation. Once the school identifies the student, it must take real action.

Police brutality is not something to be trivialized. Please sign this petition demanding that the College of Charleston expel this student immediately.
