Kanye West's Yeezy Sneakers Are Made in China, But He's Meeting With Trump to Talk About U.S. Manufacturing

Update 10/11: During his meeting with President Trump today, Kanye West said, "When we make everything in China and not in America, then we're cheating on our country. And we're putting people in positions to have to do illegal things to end up in the cheapest factory ever — the prison system." Well then, Kanye, why are you making Yeezys in China? Stop the hypocrisy now.

Because it's 2018 and nothing in the world makes sense, Kanye West will be meeting with President Trump at the White House on Thursday.
What exactly is on the agenda for that discussion? Prison reform, gang violence prevention, violence reduction in Chicago — and, uh, the resurgence of American manufacturing.

Other than having grown up in Chicago, it remains unclear what makes Kanye qualified to discuss any of these issues with Trump, but we're especially flummoxed by the last one. Especially when you consider the fact that Kanye West's Adidas Yeezy sneakers are made in China.

The hypocrisy is startling. Please sign this petition demanding that Kanye West and Adidas start manufacturing Yeezys in the U.S. now.

Kanye's high-end sneakers are currently made at the Apache Footwear factory in China where workers are horribly exploited. They are forced to work 10 hours a day, six days a week, and have to participate in unpaid company singalongs and production meetings. And yet Kanye has the gall to prattle on about U.S. manufacturing with the president — who also manufactures many of his name-brand products oversees too.

If Kanye West wants to talk to Trump about American manufacturing, he should actually make his products in the U.S. Sign now to demand he and Adidas work to make that happen now.
