Rhode Island's Children and Their Families Need Affordable Child Care!

3-year old Kennedy loves going to her child care center. Kennedy has a safe place to grow and develop while her parents work. Unfortunately, moms and dads across Rhode Island struggle to find affordable, high-quality child care programs for their kids.

While parents are their children's first and best teachers, in 2017, 66 percent of young children had working parents. This means America's workforce needs reliable child care. Unfortunately, issues accessing child care costs families $37 billion a year due to lost wages and lost job growth for parents.

We must do better for our Rhode Island's kids and families! You can help by urging our members of Congress to support the Child Care Workforce and Facilities Act (S. 605 | H.R. 1488). This bipartisan bill would provide grants to states to address child care deserts based on the unique needs of their state.

Subject: Cosponsor the Child Care Facilities and Workforce Act (H.R.1488/S.605)

I'm concerned about the lack of high-quality child care options for children and families in our country. 51% of Americans live in what's known as a child care desert. A child care desert is an area of a community where there are more than three children per licensed child care slot. While parents are their children's first and best teachers, in 2017, 66 percent of young children had working parents. This means America's workforce needs reliable child care. Unfortunately, issues accessing child care costs families $37 billion a year due to lost wages and lost job growth for parents.

To address this issue, I urge you to cosponsor the Child Care Workforce and Facilities Act (S. 605 | H.R. 1488). This bipartisan bill introduced by Senators Klobuchar (D-MN) and Sullivan (R-AK) and Representatives Peterson (D-MN) and Herrera Beutler (R-WA) would provide competitive federal grants to states to support (1) education, training, or retention of the child care workforce and/or (2) building, renovating, or expanding child care facilities in areas with child care shortages.

We need bipartisan, commonsense solutions to start addressing the lack of affordable, high-quality child care options for working families. Please cosponsor the Child Care Workforce and Facilities Act.
