Demand the freedom for Year Eleven and all students at Archbishop Sentamu Academy to participate in all extra curricular Performing Arts projects, effective immediate!

On Wednesday the 17th of October 2018, I myself alongside many other students gained knowledge of the academy's decision to disallow all Year Eleven students from participating in extra curricular performing arts projects, effective immediately. Alongside many I felt anger, shock but above all disappointment in hearing this information because performing arts is a part of my identity, like many others of many ages, and knowing that those in Year Eleven who share a similar passion do not have the freedom to participate in extra curricular shows to develop themselves as actors at the academy is beyond my emotional comprehension. We are students but before that we are people and part of being a person is free will and choice and the actions taken by the academy strips students of choice, the choice of gaining experience of performing in a professional atmosphere, that which the production and many other activities offer. Whether they want to be actors, directors, theatre technicians, the list goes on, the value of a professional atmosphere is immeasurable. These students aspire to be the best but the oppurtunity to serve one another and archieve unimaginable heights has been wrongly taken from them. We ask you to look to the depths of your being and if you recognise the truth, that this is injustice, I ask that you take a stand if not for yourself but those who fall victim to this injusitice because every voice matters! For this is only the beginning of the end of many dreams.

Lets bring change, lets stand. Thank you.
