Gov. Hickenlooper: Protect Our Health. Not Tobacco Interests!

Tobacco over our health? That's what one pro-tobacco bill (SB18-179) wants – and it is rapidly making its way through the state legislature right now.

Here's what's going on: There is currently an agreement that allows for tobacco distributors to receive credit for taxes paid on out-of-state tobacco sales. This agreement is set to end on September 1st, but SB18-179 works to make it permanent.

This bill allows tobacco distributors to take valuable dollars that would normally fund important tobacco cessation programs and CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Plan).

Unfortunately, SB18-179 is expected to pass the state legislature. BUT we still have one more opportunity to stop it. Governor Hickenlooper can stop this bill from becoming law with a VETO.

We deserve better and encouraging a pro-tobacco bill won't improve our health. Let's band together to let the governor know Coloradans don't want this.

Sign the petition to urge Governor Hickenlooper to side with the health of Coloradans instead of tobacco interests and VETO SB18-179.
Subject line: Please VETO SB18-179

Dear Governor Hickenlooper,

I am writing to you today to urge you to VETO SB18-179: Extend Credit For Out-of-State Sales. This bill takes away valuable Amendment 35 dollars that should be working to fund tobacco cessation programs and CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Plan). Please stand up for the thousands of our children and low-income neighbors to ensure their opportunity to live healthier lives.
