Empower families like Elita's to overcome hunger and poverty

In Malawi, where half the population lives below the poverty line, children like Elita often face a bleak future.

Elita's parents were farmers with a meager income, and their children were surviving on just one, maybe two, meals per day. "They were waking up weak," her father said.

But now, circumstances look much different for Elita and her family. When Heifer International started the Lead Farmer Program in their village, Elita's parents received farm training and learned how to maintain soil moisture, fix irrigation systems, and solve water shortage issues. Their working farm is now thriving with greater crop yields, and their children eat three meals every day.

"When your belly is empty, it is harder to capture things, but when I go to school after eating I can understand things and I can pass," Elita says.

You can help families like Elita's to move from poverty to sustainability. Pledge now and empower families worldwide to break free from hunger and poverty.
