Lower Out-of-Pocket Health Care Costs

When it comes to health care, the greatest concern for Americans is high out-of-pocket costs. A majority believe the amount they pay out of pocket for health care seems to be going up every year, even more than other things they need. Even if they have insurance, too many Americans are stuck with expensive bills and medical debt due to high deductibles, expensive premiums, and other out-of-pocket costs.

Soaring out-of-pocket costs like deductibles, copays, coinsurance and premiums are leaving too many consumers plagued with toxic medical debt. Too often, that debt goes into collections, financially crippling patients for years and decades to come. It's no surprise that 60 percent of Americans report they have skipped or delayed getting the health care they need because they are concerned about how much they will have to pay out of pocket. Americans deserve better.

Bringing down out-of-pocket health care costs is critical – and making sure insurance actually acts like insurance by providing Americans with the care they need without unmanageable out-of-pocket costs is essential to eliminating barriers to care. It's time for our leaders to ensure that Americans can access quality health care without the risk of debilitating medical debt.
