Stop AGL's dirty gas plan for Victoria

Right next door to Melbourne, Westernport Bay is a beautiful and diverse place. Creatures like Australian fur seals, weedy sea dragons and the little penguins at Phillip Island call it home.

But AGL have a dirty plan to turn Westernport Bay into a giant gas import terminal and build a 60km pipeline through farmland right into suburban Melbourne.

Sign the petition now to Brett Redman, AGL's CEO and tell him to stop AGL's dirty gas plan.

This dirty plan could see precious wetlands cleared, thousands of litres of chlorinated process water dumped into the Bay every year, and would massively increase Victoria's climate pollution.

There's still time to tell Brett Redman to stop this damaging and polluting project and develop a plan to transition AGL from dirty coal and gas to clean, renewable energy as quickly as possible.

Subject Line: Stop your gas plan for Westernport Bay

Petition Letter:

Dear Brett Redman, AGL CEO,

I am deeply concerned about your proposal to build a massive gas import terminal in Westernport Bay.

Climate change is a real and urgent threat. AGL has already acknowledged this in its Greenhouse Gas Policy and its commitment to reducing emissions.

While gas was once thought to be a useful transition fuel, it is now clear that we need to get to 100% renewable energy as quickly as possible. Importing more gas into Victoria is inconsistent with these efforts to tackle global warming.

Further, Westernport Bay is a very special place. It is an internationally listed wetland and home to an array of already threatened species.

We should not be risking our own precious and unique ecosystems so your company can import gas from interstate and overseas, especially if it is fracked gas that has left a ruined environment in the place where it was extracted.

I call on AGL to scrap this project and develop a plan to transition from dirty coal and gas to clean, renewable energy quickly as possible.
