Take action on President Biden's budget

Last month, President Biden released his administration's proposed budget to Congress for 2023 — which includes funding for parks and open space.

We are grateful to the Biden administration for supporting critical public lands and parks programs like the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and the Community Forest Program (CFP). However, these programs are so popular and oversubscribed that they do not have enough funding to meet the critical needs in communities all across the country.

LWCF has been vital to the protection of more than 45,000 parks and green spaces across the country, but it can do so much more. An additional $450 million in funding will allow us to address the critical unmet need in historically underserved city neighborhoods and rural communities.

CFP protects forest lands that contribute to healthy, flourishing communities. Increasing funding for this integral program will help us create new, locally owned and managed community forests, while conserving millions of acres of private forest lands across the country. This will encourage sustainable forest management and provide public access, while protecting water quality and wildlife habitat.

Our public lands, parks, and forests benefit all Americans, including future generations. Urge Congress to protect our special green spaces across the country by sending your message today!
To [Decision Maker],

As an avid supporter of our parks and public land, I urge you to significantly increase investments for land conservation programs through the FY23 appropriations process.

Programs like the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and the Community Forest Program (CFP) are vital to the protection, conservation, and restoration of our country's public lands, parks, and forests, and I am grateful that Congress provided funding for these programs as a part of FY22 appropriations.

Despite critical investments for FY22, these programs do not have enough funding to eliminate the backlog of urgent priorities for parks and public lands. Now is the time to address this in order to avoid losing current at-risk opportunities and irreplaceable green spaces.

For these reasons, I strongly urge you to prioritize a significant increase in investments for parks and public lands as a part of the FY23 appropriations process. If we maximize these essential programs, we will be able to save delicate lands, waters, and green spaces all across America for people now and for generations to come.

Sincerely,
