Demand affordable housing

In the last decade, we've added 500,000 New Yorkers, but only 100,000 new housing units.

Without more supply, rents will keep skyrocketing.

Kathryn Garcia's got a plan. As mayor, Kathryn will zone for more affordable housing, and reduce barriers to constructing it.

For the lowest-income New Yorkers, Kathryn will build 50,000 units of deeply affordable housing. For families, Kathryn will fight to end discriminatory zoning, and allow more apartments, duplexes, and triplexes.

For single-adult households -- about one-third of our city --Kathryn will legalize safe, sustainable options like basement apartments, accessory dwelling units, and single-room occupancy apartments.

And, right now, it can take nearly a year of permitting and land use review before construction can start. I'll work to streamline this process and make expanding housing supply a priority.
