Congress: Work on a Bipartisan Fix for Health Care

This year, the health care of millions of Americans has been continuously attacked and Congress has failed to establish a real, bipartisan solution. Thanks to the hundreds of thousands of emails, petition signatures, phone calls, and rallies, Americans have collectively been able to stop Congress’ repeated attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

But our health care is still in jeopardy.

On October 12th, President Trump abruptly signed an executive order that could destabilize the health insurance market. This action could mean that consumers will pay more for less coverage, while also having fewer protections.

This executive order on health care will pave the way for increased use of association health plans, which aren’t required to provide the same amount of coverage or protections that ACA plans are. The widespread use of these plans will force a race to the bottom for health coverage and could destabilize the private market.

The executive order doesn’t strengthen the private insurance market or address any of the things in the ACA that need to be fixed. Instead, they considerably harm consumers, especially those most in need of health care like people who are sick, older people, and people with pre-existing conditions.

Tell Congress: Work together towards a bipartisan solution that stabilizes the markets and fixes the flaws of the ACA. We can't risk raising premiums, decreasing coverage, and losing protections.
Subject: Work on a bipartisan fix for the ACA

Dear [elected official],

I am writing to share my concerns regarding President Trump’s decision to sign the executive order paving the way for increased use of association health.

While the Affordable Care Act (ACA) does need improvement, the executive order does little to address any of the problems currently facing our health care system. Even worse, it will critically harm consumers.

In light of these recent events, I am writing to urge you and your fellow members of Congress to take action. Congress needs to establish a bipartisan plan to strengthen the private market and one that works to improve the ACA, not weaken it. Expanded association will likely result in increased premiums, fewer protections for consumers, reduced coverage, and fewer insurers in the private market.

As a fellow Coloradan, I ask that you work other members of Congress to develop a bipartisan plan that improves the ACA in a way that will benefit consumers.

Thank you for your time.
