Sign to support U.S.-Israel collaboration to research, diagnose, and treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Between 11 and 20 percent of veterans who served in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in a given year, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Women who served in these conflicts experience an even higher rate of PTSD, with 20 percent of female veterans having been diagnosed with PTSD.

Our veterans deserve to experience the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness they fought to protect. Yet studies show that PTSD has links to homelessness and substance abuse in the United States. VA estimates that approximately 11 percent of the homeless population are veterans, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration estimates that about 7 percent of veterans have a substance abuse disorder.

We need to improve our research, diagnostics, and treatment of PTSD to help veterans live healthy, fulfilling lives when they return home.

The United States-Israel PTSD Collaborative Research Act is a bipartisan bill that directs the Secretary of Defense to explore scientific collaboration and award grants to American and Israeli institutions working collaboratively to research, diagnose, and treat PTSD.

Israeli hospitals, universities, and nonprofits have dedicated themselves to cutting-edge research and treatment for this disorder. The United States-Israel PTSD Collaborative Research Act would help find new ways to treat those who suffer from traumatic events.
