Hello 👋,
Badgers are the UK's largest predator. These native wild, black-and-white animals are beloved by many Britons who care about wildlife and find them cute. Some people even feed them, trying to help them and help the British wildlife. These animals eat rodents, slugs, insects, fruit and even hedgehogs! As a native predator, they are vital to the UK's ecosystems. They build setts and have families, just like you have your families.
Yet, these cute and lovable animals are being "culled" by those employed by the Government and farmers using cage traps, baiting and shooting, based on bad science, in a misguided attempt to prevent bTB (Bovine Tuberculosis) from being spread by badgers to cattle. In 2019, researchers found that, in one cull zone, there had actually been an increase in bTB. This is not just animal rights jargon. Numerous scientists would agree that badger culling is unjustified, misguided and pointless. It does not necessarily help reduce bTB. There is no conclusive evidence that badgers spreading TB to cattle happens very much. According to the League Against Cruel Sports, a 2014 report by an Independent Expert Panel of scientists appointed by Defra to assess the effectiveness and humaneness of the 2013 badger culls concluded that:
* The culls did not even come close to reducing badger populations by 70%, the minimum level deemed to have any significant effect in reducing bTB in cattle
Coverage of 70% of the land in the cull area, another essential criteria for having any significant effect, could not be confirmed
* Up to 18% of badgers shot were still alive after 5 minutes and at risk of experiencing marked pain, meaning up to 422 badgers may have suffered marked pain.
Working on and supporting cattle vaccination for bTB would be a more humane and, perhaps, more effective way of reducing bTB in cattle. Innocent badgers should not have to die unnecessarily due to farmers' demand for money. If you really care about your profits, your businesses, your cattle, wildlife and the countryside (as farmers will often say they do) please, please support vaccination, not culling!!!
We, the Undersigned, kindly demand that you
stop ALL badger culling RIGHT NOW!!!!! We will boycott your businesses and will not vote for you until you stop this culling and take a stand for badgers!!!
Please note, I do not want to offend or upset anyone. I just want the killing of the badgers stopped right now! There are farmers out there who are against the culling, too. I do not encourage any abuse to anyone, even if they are involved with animal cruelty like farming or badger culling. Every sentient being has a right to respect, love, compassion and kindness, including humans, even those who are cruel to animals...
