When Kacy returned home for his lunch break on April 5, 2011, he had no idea his entire world would change. He picked up a phone call from his uncle, who told Kacy that his parents were involved in a car crash and neither of them survived.

Upon hearing the news, Kacy was understandably shell-shocked. Making matters worse, Kacy and his wife, Nicki were now tasked with the responsibility to organize his parents' funeral, take care of their estate, and move his parents' bodies from the site of the accident to their requested burial site.

Arranging the logistics of your parents' death while trying to process the grief of a life-altering event can feel nearly impossible. Thankfully, Kacy and Nicki's friends immediately rallied at the couple's house and called Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS), who took care of coordinating everything during this time.

NMCRS was there every step of the way during this process, securing a flight from Hawaii (where Kacy was stationed) to North Carolina, just three hours after Kacy was notified of his parents passing. NMCRS even helped Kacy find a moving company that would ship sentimental family heirlooms from North Carolina to Hawaii.

NMCRS did more than help Kacy and his family financially — the Society provided heartfelt support at a time when Kacy was incapacitated with grief. Pledge your support for relief services like those provided by NMCRS today if you believe Marines, Sailors, and their families deserve a hand up in times of need.
